350Z Convertible

June 12th, 2007

I was watching a car show the other day where they were comparing the best convertible sports cars.  The Nissan 350Z was one of the cars they looked at.  After a fairly long comparison between the cars they came to the conclusion that if you want a convertible sports car, buy one that was originally designed to be a convertible, ie. NOT a Nissan 350Z.

They found the convertible 350Z to have slightly more body roll compared to the coupe model.  This would be because the roof acts as a brace over the whole car.

Some of the other cars like the BMW Z4 convertible, which was designed as a convertible, got the thumbs up.

2008 Nismo 350Z

June 3rd, 2007

We all know about the Nismo model GTR skylines.  Nissan is now set to bring out a Nismo version of the 350Z!  It was bound to happen.

So what are the differences between the Nismo model and the standard 350Z?  Apart from the cost that has not been announced yet the Nismo version will have a number of improvements.  The Nismo version will have a new body kit design complete with a rear diffuser and wing.  Stunning Nismo-branded Ray’s Engineering wheels give the car a real racing appeal.

Despite all of the visual changes the 350Z’s engine and drive terrain go unchanged.  The Nismo 350Z will still have 306 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque.  The Nismo version does however get new suspension tuning, Brembo brakes, and Nismo exhaust.

The number of Nismo 350Z’s have not yet been announced but as with all Nismo versions the numbers will be limited and deliveries begin in July 2007.

Here are some pictures of the Nismo 350Z

Dodgy Idle? Clean the AFM Dammit!

May 31st, 2007

The Nissan 350Z, like lots of cars,  use AMF’s (air flow meters or MAF’s, mass air flow meters).  When the AMF becomes dirty, the car will end up with a rough idle.  So how do you fix this bad idle? Clean the AFM!   It’s very easy and can make you idle a whole lot better.

1.  First, remove the AFM.   (This looks like a black tube about 80mm wide and 20cm long)

2.  Unscrew the AFM assembly.

3.  Spray inside the AFM with electrical contact cleaner.   Wait a couple of minutes for this to dry.   Electrical contact cleaner usually drys quite fast.   Don’t clean the AFM with something like a lubricant spray, as this will leave a residue.

4.  After the AFM has dried, connect everything back up.

5.  Done!

NOTE:   Many things can cause a rough idle.   For example, an air leak, broken afm, ecu problems, tunning, etc.. etc..So if your car is still running rough look into these other problems starting with simple fixes like an air leak.
